Deputies and volunteer fire fighters were called to 3820 Ellenton-Omega Road, near Omega, at 9:47 p.m., a sheriff’s office report said. The master bedroom was engulfed in flames when the deputy arrived.

The owner, Nathan Brian Lane of Omega, said the house was vacant. The fire was called in by a passing motorist.

Noting that the electricity had been cut off to the residence, the Ellenton Volunteer Fire Department chief asked the sheriff’s department to look into the origin of the fire, the deputy’s report said.

A sheriff’s department investigator said Wednesday that a state fire investigator is expected to begin his investigation today.
