Donald Buie.

A convicted sex offender wanted by Pennsylvania authorities on warrants alleging he failed to meet registration requirements was arrested Thursday in Moultrie.

Donald Leroy Buie, 46, was taken into custody at about 7:30 a.m. at his 527 Second Ave. N.W. residence, Moultrie Police Department reports said. Officers were notified that Buie was there by the  Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office, which has charged him with fugitive from justice.

Documents sent from Pennsylvania to law enforcement here said that Buie registered in September 2010 and stated that he was living at a Harrisburg, Pa., residence. Attempts to contact him there were unsuccessful and in June 2011 he reported that he was living at a different address. Since that time he has not complied with sex offender reporting and parole requirements.

Pennsylvania has confirmed that it intends to bring Buie back there to answer the charges.

If Buie signs a waiver he will be taken back soon, or if he does not Pennsylvania authorities will move to extradite him, said Sgt. Becky Perry with the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office.

Buie did not register in Colquitt County as a sex offender as required she said. Sex offenders who move to a new county have 72 hours to register.

Buie likely will not be prosecuted here on that offense and the fugitive from justice charge likely will be dismissed once Pennsylvania authorities pick him up, Perry said.

Buie has no felony convictions in Colquitt County, and has not been incarcerated in a state prison facility, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.
