Moultrie Police Department reports said that an officer stopped a tan Dodge pickup truck at about 8:09 a.m. on Second Street Southeast because of a cracked tail light. The two men and a woman, all residents of  607 12th Ave. S.E., appeared to be arguing, and as the officer approached they were nervous and agitated.

A check revealed that Steven Barker, 52, the driver, was wanted by the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office on a probation charge.

As the officer was investigating, police said, Patrick Anthony Bates, 47, suddenly ran toward Fourth Avenue Southeast. The officer caught him in the 400 block of 11th Court Southeast and it was discovered that he also had an active warrant through the sheriff’s office.

At that time Barker was charged with improper tail light, expired tax and probation violation, and Bates was charged with duty to obey officer and probation violation.

Sara Ann Bates told police that she would walk home, but after the men were taken to jail the officer found that Sara Bates also had an outstanding warrant. He returned to the area and found her in the 1000 block of Second Street Southeast, where she was arrested on a probation violation charge.
