Wylie Lee ‘Jack’ Moore, 86, of Moultrie, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, at Mother Easter Baptist Church, where the Rev. Freddie Castle is pastor. The Rev. Purvis Moore will officiate, assisted by Pastor Barry Watson, Pastor Pernell Adams and Pastor Lee Brown. Burial will follow in the St. James Pallbearers Cemetery #2 with the repast to be concluded in the E.H. Hopkins Fellowship Hall. Lamar Holmes III, Rashad Baker, Richard Croft, Greg Moore, LaDarius Moore, and Kerry Lewis will serve as pallbearers. Nehemiah Masonic Lodge #138 will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Known to many family and friends as ‘Jack,’ he was born on Dec. 5, 1926, in Eupora, Miss., to the late Fred Moore and the late Fannie Hallman Moore. He was employed as a block setter and a forklift driver for a saw mill company in Mississippi and Georgia from 1936-1993, until his retirement. He was a founding member of St. Mary Freewill Baptist Church in Moultrie. He served under the leadership of the Rev. Lee Brown and served as chairman of the deacon board. He was a member of Nehemiah Masonic Lodge #138 of Moultrie. He enjoyed working, working in the church, singing, vacationing, helping and caring for people, and taking care of family, they remembered of him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Sula Dallis Moore; three brothers, Albert Moore and wife Ophelia, Simon Moore and first wife, Nora Thompson, and second wife Reba Keith, and Arnold Moore and wife Lottie; four sisters, Ruth Rogers, Nora L. Hill, Edna Moore Rodway and Lizzie Lee; grandparents, Mose and Manda Hallman and Green and Jane Moore.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Dorethea Moore of Moultrie; seven sons, Wiley L. Moore and James W. Moore and wife Brenda, both of Moultrie, Wilbert W. Moore and wife Bettina W. of Hot Springs, Ark., T.C. Moore, Johnny L. Moore and wife Avegene, Jerry J. Moore and wife Tamara, and Peter R. Moore and wife Stephanie, all of Moultrie; three daughters, Mary A. Holmes and husband Claude Jr. Esther M. Mathis and husband Charlie, and Thessie A. Baker and husband Rev. Reginald Baker, all of Moultrie; three brothers, Paul Moore and wife Voncile, Willie F. Moore and Eddie Evans, all of Moultrie; three sisters, Bernice Bates Curry and Mary Davis, both of Moultrie and Maggie Mae Moore of Nichols, Ga.; 30 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; two special friends, Lola Jamerson and Pearlie M. Little, both of Moultrie; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The public viewing will be Friday, Jan. 4, from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m., at Luke Strong And Son Mortuary, Ltd.
