2 charged after burglary at storage unit

Two Moultrie men face theft charges after a Moultrie Police Department officer observed a burglary in progress Sunday night at a storage unit.

Michael Snipes, 36, 1509 Hutchinson Drive, and Steven Ray Miller, 17, 1413 Hutchinson Drive, were each charged with burglary.

They are accused of stealing a ladder, computer central processing unit and four plastic storage totes, police reports said.

The property, owned by Jaime Miller, was taken from a storage unit in the 600 block of North Main St.

In other arrests:

• Ashley Danielle Andrade, 23, 404 Seventh Ave. S.W. Apt. A4, was charged Thursday with contempt of court

• Fontavions Tyshawn Gudes, 22, 125 Hunter Hills Drive, was charged Thursday with improper passing of an emergency vehicle, driving while license suspended and probation violation.

Police reports said that Gudes, driving a 2008 Dodge Charger, came “within inches” of striking a patrol car involved in a traffic stop at Fifth Avenue Southeast and Washington Street.

• John Joseph Duran, 50, 2400 W. Blvd., was charged Friday with probation violation.

• Shaun Navaris Wiggs, 28, 123 Jones St., Doerun, was charged Friday with no seat belt, false information and driving while license suspended.

Police reports said that Wiggs, who was stopped in the 600 block of Seventh Avenue Northwest in a Nissan Altima, initially gave his name as Terry Anderson Jr.

• Tracy Crawford, 23, 112 30th Ave. N.W., was charged Saturday with theft by taking.

Waffle House, 1900 First Ave. S.E., reported that a Friday check of video showed Crawford taking money from the cash drawer and putting it in her apron, police reports said.

• Michael Sherrod Sims, 29, Moultrie, was charged Friday with probation violation.

• Erica Moctezuma, 20, 504 Rossman Dairy Road Lot W, was charged Saturday with driving without a license and following too close.

• Amalia Lopez, 31, 668 Greenfield Church Road, was charged Sunday with no license and failure to maintain lane.

• Willie Henry Lawton, 50, 122 Ga. Hwy. 270 W., was charged Sunday with theft by shoplifting.

• Lachara Auntrelle Brinson, 19, 718 Hillcrest Ave., and Zachary Coleman, 19, 602 Hillcrest Ave., were each charged Sunday with disorderly conduct.

Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office

• Andrew Tyler Norman, 35, 211 McElroy Road, was charged Sunday with driving under the influence, failure to maintain lane and open container violation.

• Carol Lynette Norman, 211 McElroy Road, was charged Sunday with open container violation.

• John Thomas Hit, 52, 165 Weathers Road, was charged Saturday with pedestrian under the influence.

• Santos Hernandez, 25, 2775 Las Vegas Lane, Norman Park, was charged Sunday with pedestrian under the influence.

• James Franklin Thompson, 57, 407 Merritt Road, Hartsfield, was charged Thursday with probation violation.

• Thomas Troy Willeby, 43, 351 W. Bethel Ave., was charged Thursday with battery.

Doerun Police Department

• Robert Ellis Aldridge, 45, 216 N. Ticknor Road, Doerun, was charged Sunday with public drunk and obstruction of an officer.

• Vickie Victoria Howard, 29, 217 N. Jones St., Doerun, was charged Thursday with disorderly conduct, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer and obstruction of an officer.

• Dympna Ginevieve Norman, 51, 405 E. Broad Ave., Doerun, was charged Saturday with battery and cruelty to children.

Georgia State Patrol

• Stacy Bernard Blackwell, 40, 493 C.M. Chafin Road, was charged Friday with probation violation, driving while license suspended, no proof of insurance, seat belt violation and expired tag.

• Luis Alvarez Martin, 34, 174 Bluebird Lane, was charged Sunday with driving under the influence, driving without a license, open container violation and failure to maintain lane.

• Freddie Lee Smithwick, 22, 3760 Stagecoach Road, Meigs, was charged Saturday with driving while license suspended and safety belt violation.

Assaults

Moultrie Police Department

• Shabretta Carter, Moultrie, reported Friday that a male companion hit her in the stomach and dragged her down some stairs.

An officer was called to Colquitt Regional Medical Center at about 8:38 a.m. after Carter, who is five months pregnant, went for medical care. Carter told the officer she was trying to move out when she and the man began “passing licks.”

Carter was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

• Angela Twiggs, Moultrie, reported Monday that a male that a male acquaintance hit her in the mouth during an encounter at about 12:10 a.m. in the first block of Fifth Avenue Northwest.

Twigs had no visible injuries, police reports said.

• Katelyn DeMott, Moultrie, reported Monday that a male acquaintance hit her in the throat and cupped it as if trying to choke her during an incident at 1:30 a.m. outside Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

DeMott had no visible injuries, police reports said.

Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office

• Virginia Garcia, 100 block Fifth Avenue Southeast, reported Sunday that her husband Juan Carlos was attacked at 5 p.m. by several men at the soccer fields in the 600 block of Sardis Church Road.

Garcia told the officer that she threw knives at the men to stop the attack. As they left someone threw a beer bottle through the window of their 1999 GMC Astro van.

Carlos had a scratch on his hand and busted lip, sheriff’s reports said.

Thefts

Moultrie Police Department

• Todd Holtzclaw, Moultrie, reported Saturday that a bag containing $239 was stolen from a 2008 Chevrolet Cutaway parked in the 1200 block of Georgia Highway 133 South.

• Advance Auto Parts, 1725 First Ave. S.E., reported Sunday that a woman concealed merchandise valued at $100 and walked out of the store.

A store employee decided not to press charges in the case. The Metter, Ga., woman was issued a criminal trespass warning and told to leave the property.

 • Mary Hill, 400 block Third Avenue Northwest, reported Sunday the theft of a television valued at $125.

• Dollar General, 1908 First Ave. S.E., reported that a man concealed packs of boxer shorts in his pants.

A store employee recovered the merchandise and the man walked out of the store, police reports said.

• Torie Johnson, Moultrie, reported Sunday the theft of a clothes washer, dryer and television from a storage unit in the on Camilla Highway. The value of the stolen items was $950.

• Tyreek Reed, Thomasville, reported Sunday the theft of a 2010 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle.

Reed told the officer that he left the motorcycle at a house in the 1000 block of Fourth Avenue Southwest because of the rain and got a ride home. When he returned the motorcycle, valued at $8,000, was gone.

Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office

• David Taylor, Moultrie, reported Sunday that a vacant residence in the 700 block of Sumner Road was stripped of copper wire.

• Daniel Lawton Sr., 900 block R.L. Norman Road, reported Sunday the theft of a 1963 Chevrolet Impala valued at $10,000.

The car later was located, sheriff’s reports said.

Property damage

Moultrie Police Department

• Chazna Thomas, 800 block Northside Drive, reported Sunday that four tires were cut on a 1990 Honda Accord and her apartment window was broken. Damage was estimated at $620.

Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office

• Helen Kelly, 700 block Revells Road, reported Friday that former tenants of a residence in the 100 block of Connell Road damaged front and rear doors, several walls and light fixtures.

She also reported the theft of a television. The damage and theft occurred prior to the couple’s moving.

• Charles Jenkins, 100 block Lawyer Sumner Road, reported Sunday that three tires on a 1996 Ford Ranger were cut.

Karen Martin, of the same address, reported that a tire on a 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix was cut and the passenger door scratched.

• Pamela Moye, 1300 block U.S. Highway 319, Norman Park, reported Sunday that a 2001 Cadillac Deville DTS was scratched all over.

Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office

• Lisa Moore, 2000 block Georgia Highway 202, reported Sunday that a man came to her residence with a gas can and asked for gasoline.

Moore told the officer that the man seemed upset when she said she had no gasoline and walked down the driveway talking on a cell phone. When he got to the end of the driveway a black pickup truck stopped and he got in the passenger seat.

Moore described him as a “scruffy looking” white male wearing a lime green striped polo shirt and khaki pants.
