The effects of the busy weekend were evident when the Packers met Lowndes on Monday at Packer Park.

Colquitt struggled, especially at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, but the two doubles team played well and won and David Forehand at No. 3 singles got the deciding point in a 3-2 victory.

The victory was the second of the season for the Packers over the Vikings and each has come by a 3-2 score.

And there is a likelihood of the two teams meeting again on Thursday in the Region 1-AAAAA tournament, which also will be played at Packer Park.

Colquitt County boys coach Grant Hammack is hoping his team will be rested and ready on Thursday.

“We were kind of sluggish,” Hammack said. “We were fortunate to survive. Lowndes is a real solid team.

“But our doubles stepped up and really bailed us out.”

The victory raises the Packers overall record to 17-1 and they will take an 8-0 region record into the the tournament.

Colquitt will meet the winner of the 8:30 a.m. play-in match between Valdosta-Coffee in one semifinal, which is expected to start around 11:30 a.m. Lowndes and Tift County  will meet in the other semifinal. A Colquitt County-Lowndes meeting for the tournament championship is not out of the question.

And if that transpires, the Packers will be another dogfight, especially at Nos. 1 and 2 singles.

On Monday, Colquitt’s Andrew Harvin fell to Edward Fazylov 6-3, 4-6, 3-6 at No. 1.

The second set was tied at 4-4, but Harvin could not put the Viking away.

Bo Blalock dropped his first set 0-6 to Sam Price at No. 2 singles and, while playing better, dropped the second set 4-6.

Forehand at No. 3 singles got the deciding point with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Dylan Farmer.

And Forehand did it despite being down 3-4 in the second set.

Foreland is now 17-1 overall and 8-0 in region matches and will take a 16-match winning streak into the region tournament.

The Packers two doubles teams did their job as well.

At No. 1, Ricky Patel and Nick Nichols avenged a March 1, three-set loss to Josh Fricker and Ben Buckhalter with a 6-3, 6-2 win.

Coby King and Nick Mobley completed an 8-0 season against region opponents with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Zach Touchton and Zach Blakely. King and Mobley raised their season record to 13-2.

In extra matches, Ridge Underwood lost 5-8 and McCants Plymel won 8-0.

The Colquitt County girls dropped their second straight 2-3 decision of the season to the Vikettes.

The Lady Packers will play Tift County at about 10 a.m. Thursday in one of the two region tournament semifinal matches.

Coffee will face Valdosta in the girls play-in match at 8:30 a.m. with the winner to face top-seeded Lowndes.

The Colquitt County girls will take a 10-7 overall record and a 5-3 region record into the tournament.

The Lady Packers have met Tift County four times this season and have won three. One of the losses was in a region match.

On Monday, Erica Mobley lost at No. 1 singles to Taylor Vinge 1-6, 1-6. Conley Ward got the Lady Packers a point at No. 2 singles when she defeated Alden Minick for the second time this season, this time by a 7-6(7-5), 6-1 score.

At No. 3 singles, Courtney Terrell played Emily Singletary and fell 2-6, 1-6.

The Lady Packers also fell at No. 1 doubles where Rachel Funderburk and Hannah Radney were defeated by Lori Taylor and Laina Taylor 1-6, 0-6.

Aislin Sheffield and Ansley Moore got the Lady Packers other point, winning at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, 6-2 over Haley Tubbs and Bailey Redish.
