William Alfred ‘Bill’ Hicks Sr., 65, of Moultrie, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville, Ga.

Funeral service will be at 3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 28, at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Alfred Jones officiating, assisted by the Rev. Mose Jordan, Minister Zilphia Dorsett and the Rev. Leroy Thompson. Burial will follow in the St. James Pallbearer Cemetery #2 with the repast to conclude at the George Walker Fellowship Hall. Fred Phillips, Jessie Colbert, Oswald Jordan, Marty Fleming, Harvest Jack Jordan and Trevino Jordan will serve as pallbearers. The Colquitt County Sheriff’s Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.

He was born on Nov. 23, 1946, in Colquitt County, to the late Willie J. Hicks and the late Mary D. Jordan Hamm. He began his Christian experience at an early age at Friendship Baptist Church. He was baptized by the Rev. Frank Johnson. He was later ordained as a deacon under the leadership of the Rev. Leroy Thompson in his early adulthood. After graduating from William Bryant High School, in 1964, he furthered his education and attended Abraham Baldwin College. He graduated, in 1977, and later attended Moultrie Technical College. He served in the United States Air Force from 1965 to 1969, serving in Vietnam and Greece. He worked as a dispatcher for the Colquitt County Electric Membership Corporation for 23 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie J. Hicks; mother, Mary D. Jordan Hamm; step-father, James Hamm; one son, Jordan Taylor Hicks; grandparents, Alberta and John Jordan Sr.; five aunts; four uncles; one niece, Delisa Jordan Dotson; and a very special aunt, Louise Davis.

Survivors include his wife, Belinda Hicks of Moultrie; two sons, Kyle Douglas Hicks of Nashville, Tenn., and William Alfred Hicks II of Moultrie; six grandchildren, I’Quavien Grier, William Alfred Hicks III, Jourynei Hicks, Jordan Thornton, Abreyon Hicks and Cy’Carra Hicks, all of Moultrie; a brother, Douglas Jordan and wife Ann of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Patricia Hill and husband David of Tampa, Fla.; four nieces, Kimberly Tolbert and husband Tyrone of Stafford, Va., Krystal Jenkins and husband Marshall of Tampa, Fla., Charmaine Lewis of Newark, N.J., and Qiana Mitchell and husband Sean of Hilton Head, S.C.; three great-nieces, Alexandria Tolbert of Stafford, Va., Amera Jenkins of Tampa, Fla., and Bree Sanders of Jesup, Ga.; great-nephews, Sheldon Jenkins and Dylan Jenkins both of Tampa, Fla., and Brandon Tolbert of Stafford, Va.; a loving and devoted mother-in-law, Ruthie Lee Revills and the Rev. William Revills of Moultrie; two aunts, Eunice Jordan of Alpharetta, Ga., and Lula Jordan of Moultrie; a loving and caring cousin, Alma Fleming; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at 1309 First Avenue N.W. in Moultrie.

Visitation will be today, Jan. 27, from 7 to 8 p.m., at Luke Strong And Son Mortuary Chapel.
