What I heard

“I could not believe it when I heard on TV that some students do not start to school on the first day of school … that they come later, and if they have a test and do not come they let them make up this test.

“If parents do not start their kids on time then do not let them start until next year and that will stop this and also if they do not turn in their assignments they get a zero for the day and cannot make it up unless it is a proper reason like illness for family illness and then make them get a written excuse for their absence. Make this part of their final grade. No wonder teachers and other students that do not break the law want to throw up their hands and quit.”

The fraud

Email newsletter signup

“I was thinking about that infamous incident in Albany where the school principal had her child on free lunch.

“It makes you wonder if that’s just the tip of the iceberg … how much of this kind of fraud is going on.”

Video lessons

“Mr. Sumner should visit Khan Academy online. Salman Khan is a philanthropist who teaches all sorts of subjects especially math. All of his lessons are in video form…”

Poor leadership

“The House of Representatives passed a 2012 budget in April. The Senate has not passed a budget for 2012 yet. In fact, the Senate has not passed a budget for this country to operate on in over 900 days.

“That is nearing 3 years that the USA has operated with no budget to guide it. This includes almost 2 years that both houses of Congress and the White House were controlled totally by the Democrats. President Obama has not even submitted a budget. In one more year the country will be in big trouble with no leadership on its finances.”

Comments out of place

“While I commend what Coach Propst has done for Colquitt County High School’s football program, I do think that he is out of place with the complaints in the local paper about the officiating in the semi-final football game.

“There are appropriate avenues to voice displeasure regarding officiating and I believe Probst should avail himself of those sources.

“His comments change the focus away from the fine efforts of the team and cast a unfavorable light on our community. Silence, then whining and pouting are not traits of school leaders. Our kids learn by what they see. I was very proud of the efforts of our students; the coach, not so much.”

Applause

“God Bless you Investigator Underwood and DEFAX for saving that precious baby. We do recognize you for the work you do.

You made a huge difference in that child’s life today and probablly so many others. Thank you for everything you have done for our children in this town. It is so nice to see her smile again!”
