- Kirk DeKalb of Advanced Trap holds a turtle while doing a demonstration on turtle trapping Saturday. The turtle trapping demonstration was part of a trapper's workshop held Saturday and brought about 50 people out to learn about non-lethal ways to trap nuisance animals.
About 50 people attended a workshop Saturday where trappers from across the region showcased their expertise.
Attendees learned about non-lethal trapping methods for all kinds of nuisance animals, including beavers, turtles, snakes, raccoons, skunks and stinging insects. The largest draw was to learn about trapping techniques for armadillos.
The purpose of the workshop was to educate and inform people in a casual environment how to catch various nuisance animals and insects, according to organizer Kirk DeKalb. Instruction was done by professional nuisance control operators from across the area. Experts on hand included DeKalb, Norm Blackwell, David McLeod and Robb Russell.
Trapping experts were very pleased with the workshop and the attendance, and they are discussing another workshop in March. More information on that workshop, including a location, will be announced at a later date.
The workshop was sponsored by Advanced Trap. For more information, visit Advanced Trap’s Web site at www.advancedtrap.com.
