Five Packers named to All-State teams

Five members of the Colquitt County High state runner-up have been named to All-State football teams.
Running back Tevin King and offensive tackle Xzavier Ward were named to the Class AAAAA first team on both The Associated Press and Atlanta Journal-Constitution/Georgia High School Football Daily All-State teams.
Wide receiver Tommy Hudson, who state a state record with 102 pass receptions this year, was named to The AP second team and received honorable mention on the AJC team.
Junior center Bryce Giddens was named to The AP second team.
Quarterback Tyler Brown received honorable mention on both The AP and AJC teams.
King and Ward were both named to preseason All-State teams.
Both lived up to their preseason billing.
Ward is one of the most sought-after tackles in the state and has narrowed his choice of where he will play college football to some of the top Division I schools in the Southeast.
King rushed for 2,047 yards, ranking second in the state this year behind Putnam County’s Marteze Waller, who had 2,155 yards.
The 148-pound senior ran for 376 yards against M.L. King in the second-round of the state playoffs, had 277 against Westlake and ran for 205 yards and scored two touchdowns in the Packers state championship game loss to Brookwood. King also scored 37 touchdowns and caught 50 passes this season.
Hudson set a state record with 102 pass receptions this season, breaking the record of 100 set in 2007 by Habersham Central’s Tavarres King, currently playing at the University of Georgia.
Hudson, who caught 11 passes for 127 yards and a touchdown while playing with a broken hand in the state championship game loss to Brookwood, finished with 1,410 yards, fourth-most in the state this year.
Brown, threw for a school-record 3,358 yards this season, ranking third in the state. He threw for 28 touchdowns, including two in each of the Packers five playoff games. Brown threw for 354 yards in the state championship game.
Giddens, the 5-11, 269-pound junior center, will be one of the top linemen in the state next season.
He started all 29 games for the Packers the last two season and took over as the team’s starting center about halfway through his freshman year.
Chattahoochee senior quarterback Timmy Byerly was The AP All-Classification Player of the Year.
In Class AAAAA, Collins Hill senior quarterback Tyler Heinicke was the Offensive of Player of the Year. Brookwood linebacker Cameron Lynch was the Defensive Player of the Year and Broncos coach Mark Crews was the Coach of the Year.
Other Region 1-AAAAA players who were named All-State are wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell, tight end Jay Rome, quarterback Ryan Whilden and linebacker Jermaine Holmes of Valdosta and defensive lineman James Mathis, linebacker Josh Clemons, running back Troy Braswell and defensive back Tiquan Lang of Lowndes.
Other All-State players Colquitt County faced off against during the 2010 season are running back Nick Tompkins, offensive lineman Blake Fussell, defensive back Nick Moore, place-kicker Erick Yang and wide receiver A.J. Sims of Brookwood; wide receiver Demarco Robinson, linebacker Patrick Callaway, defensive back Kevin Byard and quarterback Jonquel Dawson of M.L. King; defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche and linebaker Michael Peek of Grayson; quarterback John Russ, running back Tyler Cierski and offensive lineman Austin Hagan of Mill Creek; linebacker Shannon Brown of Cook; and Ray Drew of TCC.
