Funston wins YMCA elementary soccer league title

- Funston Elementary School won the 2010 YMCA Elementary School Soccer League. Funston defeated Odom Elementary School 11-7 in the championship game on Saturday.
Funston Elementary School clinched the YMCA Elementary Soccer League Championship for the second season in a row last Saturday with an 11-7 victory over Odom Elementary School.
Funston finished the season with a record of 9-0.
Members of the 2010 Funston Elementary School soccer team include: Timothy Brinson, Daniel Garza, Caleb Guerra, David Martin, Brady Mathis, Juan Pascual, Emanuel Rodriguez, Peniel Rodriguez, Abram Sanchez, Blake Sellers, Raul Trejos and Leena Viruet.
Funston was coached by Delfina and Beto Rodriguez.
Ten teams from Odom, Sunset, R.B. Wright, Cox, Stringfellow, Funston, Okapilco and Norman Park participated in the Fall 2010 Elementary Soccer season.
A total of 115 fourth- and fifth-graders played in the soccer league.
The Elementary School soccer league is made possible through the partnership between the Moultrie YMCA and Colquitt County school system.
The Moultrie YMCA is currently holding sign-ups for the 2011 Elementary Basketball season.
The deadline for registration is Sunday, November 28.
Parents can register their children at the YMCA or a YMCA representative will be collecting forms at each elementary school on Friday, November 19, at 7:30 a.m.
