Ten members of the Moultrie Sharks Swim Team competed last Saturday, in Valdosta, at the Valdosta YMCA 2010 Piranha Invitational.

“The coaches, parents and swimmers are all thrilled about the levels of potential that we have seen in both the veterans and new swimmers this summer. All Olympic swimmers began their journeys as young age group competitors scooting down the pool at a summer-time meet. While standing behind the starting blocks and waiting for their race, every child has the chance to feel like an Olympian,” said coach, Pierre Rogers.

Andy Alekseichuk and Austin Vines both placed second high point in overall individual rankings for their age groups, respectively 13-14 boys and 15-18 boys.

“Last weekend at the Valdosta Invitational two of our older boys turned in exceptional performances,” he said.

 In his division, Alekseichuk placed second in the boys 100 free, the 50 free, and the 100 IM. He placed first in the boys 50 breast and third in the 50 back. Vines placed second in his division in the boys 100 free, the 50 free, the 100 IM, and the 50 Fly. He also placed first in the boys 50 back.

The relay team of Brooklyn Walsh, Rachel Bostick, Savana Chapman, and Vivi Larson placed third in the girls 200 medley relay in the 13-14 division. They also took third in the girls 200 free relay in their division.

“We are putting together some strong relays for the first time this summer and many of our swimmers are hungry for individual best times,” Rogers said.

Members of the team will compete, at home, on Saturday, June 19, at Memorial Pool for the Moultrie Sharks-Georgia Games Invitational swim meet.

“The water has been boiling with activity and anticipation as the Sharks prepare for our home meet, the Moultrie Sharks-Georgia Games Invitational. The swimmers have been working hard in practice and are ready to showcase their skills at the Moultrie Memorial pool S.W. this Saturday,” he said.

There will be ten teams present and a total of 210 swimmers from north Florida and south Georgia.

“The first splash of the day will happen at 9:30 a.m., and should conclude around 2 p.m.,” Rogers said.
