A lunch of baked chicken with rice, basil green beans, cranberry congealed salad, and pound cake with whipped topping and blueberries was prepared by Pilot Club members, using recipes from Moultrie Pilot Club’s 65th Anniversary Cookbook. The cookbook features recipes of past and present Pilot members. The cookbook was on display for guests to preview and purchase. Colquitt County HOSA club members, Letitia Simon and Marcos Dejesus, assisted serving the luncheon guests.
Clothes for the Spring Fashion Show were provided by Turner’s Fine Clothing of Moultrie. Anne Carlton, owner of Turner’s, volunteered her time to fit models with the newest trends in spring fashion; provided the commentary for each fashion during the show; shared her expertise with guests on best styles for body shapes and use of color to accentuate an outfit; and donated a handbag as a prize for the guests. Many ladies of the community volunteered their time to model for the event. The models included Anna Adcock, Melody Connell, Kacey Creech, Bonnie Duncan, Kittie Gandy, Erica Grantham, Emily Hammock, Jordan Hammock, Patricia Howell, Earlene Howell, Diane Lowry, Linda Mead, Barbara Peoples, Melissa Reed, Johnnie Reynolds, Sam Rogers, Alden Rykard, Melanie Rykard, Rebecca Rykard, Rhonda Sauls, Michele Sherman, and Tina Weldon.
Table floral arrangements for “Wee Bit” were donated by Napier Flower and Gift Shop. Table decorations included white tablecloths with centerpieces of red roses, bells of Ireland, white daisies, red and yellow mums, and greenery in a crystal vase. China, silver, and crystal settings, furnished by Pilot Club members, completed the table decorations. Ferns and other greenery were placed around the room. Colquitt County JROTC cadets, Duncan Brown, Todd Lamb, John Manning, Jeff Peacock, and Kaitlin Turner, assisted the Pilot Club by parking guests and serving as stage attendants during the fashion show.
Following the fashion show, “Wee Bit” guests had the opportunity to receive door prizes donated by several local businesses. The ticket to the luncheon and fashion show served as their drawing entry. This event was sponsored by donations from Anne Carlton, Turner’s, Barbara’s Cosmetique, Cranford’s Jewelry, Griner Jewelry, Head to Toe Beauty Salon, Heritage Embroidery, Judy Owens, Mary Kay Consultant, Main Street Tans, Moultrie Stadium Cinemas, Loblolly, Paradise Pools, Sid’s Antiques, and Tarragon Grill.
Others that also supported the Eighth Annual Wee Bit of Moultrie include Larry Franklin Properties, Lifespring Community Church, Mashburn Printing Company, Modern Cleaners, Napier Flower and Gift Shop, Turner’s Fine Clothing, Moultrie Chamber of Commerce for publicity in the weekly newsletter, and the Moultrie Observer for supporting Pilot Club through the publicizing of events throughout the year. Without all of the contributors and guests, the fundraiser would not have been such a success.
The Moultrie Pilot Club uses the proceeds from “Wee Bit of Moultrie to support various community, district, state, and international projects. Pilot Club is an international volunteer service organization whose main emphasis is brain-related disorders. Displays were available for guests to view and learn about some of The Pilot Club of Moultrie’s main service projects. Projects such as Brain minder’s; Project Lifesaver; St. Jude’s Research Hospital; “Cookie“, a guide dog Moultrie Pilot’s sponsor through SEGD Association; Colquitt County Food Bank; Special Needs Girl Scout Troop; and providing needed items for the Senior Center, and local nursing homes in the community are just a few of the many activities Moultrie Pilot’s support.
