I agree

“I enjoyed and agreed with the ‘fresh eyes’ column. Thank you for allowing us to submit anonymous comments and opinions. If you think about it, anonymity is a shield from the tyranny of the majority. It thus exemplifies the purpose behind the Bill of Rights, and of the First

Amendment in particular:  to protect unpopular individuals from retaliation, and their ideas from suppression, at the hand of an intolerant society.”

Public safety

“Several deaths have been reported in Atlanta with wrong way drivings these past weeks.  The same thing is going to happen at the street in front of the hospital that turns into Veteran’s Parkway. unless it is better lit.”

Academics

“I was not raised in Moultrie but since moving here I have become a huge Packers Fan and give my support in every way I am capable.  Where I went to school, academics came before sports and that state’s drop out rate is 30% lower than Georgia and they still have a very large sports program.

‘I have three children that attend Colquitt County Schools and on Friday night during football season you can find us all sitting in the stands at every home game and some away games. I do have a big issue when I talk with my children’s teachers and hear that there is only one math book for that grade level and that is the reason why my child is unable to bring home a book for me to assist him with his homework, I have heard this for different subjects for the past three years.

“I understand that sports are important but let’s wake up a little, academics are what makes a child successful in the future.”

Religion

“Why can’t people like M J Blanchard understand that just because they are a member of a religion that is popular, they cannot go erecting monuments to their beliefs such as the ten commandments on public property that was purchased with everyone’s tax dollars, including mine. As a non-believer, I resent such displays. Why don’t you use your tax-exempt church to display them?”

Cage fighting

“I see their is a cage fighting event being allowed to go on at Spence Field.  Don’t go complaining when people are fist fighting the next day in the public because they want to be a cage fighter.”

Good point

“Good point. We try to force democracy in other lands and we take it for granted here. We are supposed to be the showcase. However, we demonstrate apathy in many venues including the voting booth and a general lack of knowledge of civics.”
