Rant and Rave for Sept. 30

Passion

“I’m not sure if the ranter was making fun of us or applauding our rants and raves for our passion. I’m taking it as a compliment because indeed it is about our passion for our community. If only the public in general had this kind of passion on a national level.”

From the heart

“Mrs. Hays: I appreciate your willingness to speak out but I think you are the victim of scare tactics. If our kids are taught how to pray, they can pray anywhere, anytime just like Christ taught us. And no, we will not be jailed for praying nor will we be shot. Prayer and faith come from the heart, not from the podiums.

“Be aware Mrs. Hays that we have churches on almost every corner and a freedom to worship unheard of any many countries. Our government actually protects that. Please don’t succumb to fear tactics. Instead, pray that individuals will embrace the many gifts of our God.”

Little things

“I’ve been going to football games for years and I’ve never been bothered by the kids who attend. I guess some of us just don’t let little things annoy us — except maybe for gnats and mosquitoes.”

Small town

“I’m assuming the ranter was praising us for our small town commentaries. I, too, have lived in places where no one cared what you thought. I’m glad not to live there anymore and I applaud the Moultrie Observer for giving us this forum.”

Thanks

“Mr. Walden. I had never really thought about there being no Channel 1 on our televisions. We actually talked about that column at the dinner table the other night and it was an enjoyable evening because you caused us to stop and think about things that often go right by us. Also, you take us back to a time when families actually did sit down and eat and fellowship together. Keep it up. We need more non-political commentary.”

How to pray

“Mrs. Hays: Thanks for your letter on God and prayer. However, be aware that there is a whole lot praying going on amongst us. As Mr. Walden pointed out sometime back in a column, if we teach our kids how to pray, they can pray at school or anywhere. He also asked the question in that column, ‘how many of us pray with our kids before we put them on the bus each morning?’ I think that puts the responsibility of faith and prayer back where it should be and in the proper perspective.”

For the kids

“People please remember this: These are kids playing football and kids playing in the band. Let them enjoy their young years as much as possible. They will meet adulthood soon enough.”
