MOULTRIE — A Moultrie physician struck by a vehicle Monday was undergoing tests after suffering a head injury in the accident, the man’s father said.

Dr. David W. Adcock II, suffered no broken bones and was conscious after being taken to the University of Louisville for treatment, Dr. D.W. Adcock said Monday afternoon.

The younger Adcock had bleeding inside his head and was undergoing tests to determine the severity of his injuries, his father said.

“The last report we had … they were going to scan him again to see if it (bleeding) was increasing inside,” his father said. “We were so happy he wasn’t deeply unconscious. He was able to tell his mother he loved her. It was good he was cognitive enough to tell his mother he loved her.”

Adcock said his son was complaining of a “terrible headache.”

The accident occurred Monday morning while David Adcock was out running near Bardstown, Ky., and was struck by a motorist who stopped to assist him.

“As is his habit — he’s a marathon runner and triathlete — he was out this morning doing his long-distance run,” his father said. “He’s been up in Kentucky to go to a wedding. A farmer accidentally hit him.

“The only thing he had on him was a cell phone. The farmer was able to get ahold of somebody. It’s wonderful that somebody who hit him stopped and got some help for him.”

D.W. Adcock said the family has been inundated with encouragement from the community.

“We’re hoping for the best,” he said.

A Kentucky State Police spokesman said that no report on the accident would be available for five to seven days.
