MOULTRIE — Pastor Harold William “Bill” Turner Jr., 75, of Moultrie, died Monday, April 6, 2009, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at El Aposento Alto Church (The Upper Room Church) with the Rev. Omar Hancock officiating. Interment will follow in Cobb Suncrest Memorial Gardens. Casketbearers will be Marcos Moreno, Esteban Ibarra, Efrain Rodriguez, Jose Jaurez, Abelino Martinez, Victor Muñez, Ismael Moreno and Agustin Malagon.
Born April 5, 1934, in Kokomo, Ind., he was the son of the late Harold William Turner Sr. and Betty Jane Kessler Turner Verette. He served as a missionary in the country of Panama from 1960-1974. He was instrumental in the founding of many El Aposento Alto Churches, including Atlanta, Tifton, Crossville, Tennessee, several in California and also in Hidalgo, Mexico. He was currently serving as pastor of El Aposento Alto Church in Moultrie. He also founded “The Wheelchair Ministry,” which purchases and delivers wheelchairs to the needy in Mexico.
He was preceded in death by his son, Harold William Turner III.
Surviving are his wife, Dixza Mirella Vasquez Turner of Moultrie; two sons, Timothy Lee Turner of Savannah, Ga., and Terry Lewis Turner and wife Rebecca Sue of Ann Arbor, Mich.; one daughter, Elicia Turner Bauman of Adel, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, Aaron Thompkins, Jason Nicholas Turner, Lane Turner, Amy Marie Meyer, Ashley Renee Turner, Richard Joshua Bauman, Sarah Elizabeth Bauman, Jacob Christopher Bauman, Isabella Ann Turner and Lewis Frank Turner; and six great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Thompkins, Malone Thompkins, Jordan Meyer, Lillian Turner, Frances Turner and Rose Turner.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 10, at El Aposento Alto Church in Moultrie.
