MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County High cross country teams will play host to a second invitational cross country meet today at Packer Park with all eight Region 1-AAAAA teams expected to take part.
The meet will be a tuneup for the Region 1-AAAAA meet, which will be held at the new Packer Park course on Thursday, Oct. 30.
Qualifiers from the region meet will advance to the Class AAAAA state meet, which will be run on Saturday, Nov. 8, in Carrollton.
Today’s meet will be the second held at Packer Park this season.
The Colquitt County boys and girls teams took first place in the first race run there on Sept. 30.
The Colquitt County teams also tuned up for today’s meet by running in the Westover Invitational on Saturday morning.
The Packers placed eighth out of 25 teams in the meet.
The Colquitt County girls were 15th out of 23 teams.
“Both teams had great races,” Colquitt County cross country coach Mell Wier said. “This was the most competitive meet we have run in so far this year.”
The Colquitt County boys team was led by Heath Lamb, who turned in a time of 17:30.
Lamb was followed by Carlos Charles, 17:43; Julio Perez, 17:45; Craig Dabdoub, 18:11; Jonathan Cauthen, 18:24; Joe Strickland, 19:03; Ben Hoover, 21:55; and Zack Goodno, 21:16.
Lindsey Causey was the first Lady Packer to finish, with a time of 21:43. She was followed by Karlie Brown, 22:18; Lacey Webb, 22:27; Morgan Hayes, 23:18; Carla Duque, 23:23; Carly Banks, 23:42; and Hannah Adair, 26:57.
“Both teams were missing runners who were taking the SAT and we probably would have placed higher if the full squads would have been there,” Wier said. “This puts us in good shape as we start a few weeks of hard training before the region meet.”
