MOULTRIE — The Rush Propst offense opened up on Friday, rolling up 520 yards and scoring 39 points, but it still wasn’t enough in a 42-39 loss to Valdosta at Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium.

The Packers trailed by 10 at 42-32 when Valdosta’s Chad Prain scored on a 2-yard run with 8:53 left.

But the Packers pulled to within a field goal on 28-yard touchdown pass from John Michael Harrison to Quin Roberson and a conversion by Tyler Dismuke with 5:12 remaining.

Then, with 2:17 left in the game, the Packers forced Valdosta into a fourth-and-3 at the Wildcats 46 and called timeout.

Valdosta came out in punt formation, but the Packers sent too many players out on the punt return team and while trying to run them back off the field, were called for illegal participation, giving the Wildcats a first down.

Valdosta then ran out the clock.

The Packers led 25-22 at the half, but the Wildcats scored two straight touchdowns in the third quarter to go up 36-25.

Eric Key caught a 44-yard touchdown pass from Harrison to help pull the Packers back to within four at 36-32, before the Prain touchdown.

Against a Valdosta defense that gave up just a touchdown to Warner Robins last week, Colquitt had 222 yards on the ground and 298 passing.

Harrison was 21-for-43 for 298 yards and three touchdowns.

Travon Littleton rushed for 107 yards and had a 53-yard touchdown run and Tevin King added 94 yards and 52-yard scoring jaunt.

But the Packers defense again had trouble against the run.

The Wildcats rushed for 326 yards, including 137 by Vashon Johnson and 100 by Phillip Moore. Desmond Smith added 77.

And quarterback Kyle Rowe completed 5-for-9 passes for 82 yards and a pair of fourth-down touchdown passes.

The Packers fall to 3-3 overall and 0-3 in Region 1-AAAAA.

Valdosta climbed back in the race for a playoff berth and is 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the region.

Valdosta took its first possession and drove 52 yards in five plays to score a touchdown on a 19-yard fourth-down pass from Rowe to Justin Williams and it looked as if it might be another long night for the Packers defense.

The Packers pulled to within four when Tyler Dismuke connected on a field goal from 27 yards out with 6:01 left in the first quarter.

The fun really began in the second quarter in which Valdosta scored two touchdowns and the Packers scored three touchdowns — twice on runs of 53 yards by Littleton and, moments later, 52 yards by King.

The Packers took a 10-7 lead on a 13-yard run by John Michael Harrison 54 seconds into the second quarter.

But Valdosta matched that touchdown quickly, driving 72 yards in just five plays. Vashon Johnson took it into the end zone with a 30-yard run.

But Valdosta’s 14-10 lead was short-lived.

Five plays after the Wildcats kickoff, Littleton broke up the middle and raced 53 yards for a touchdown. Rich Tyndall’s kick was no good, but the Packers had regained the lead at 16-14.

After forcing Valdosta punt, the Packers scored in just two plays, with Tevin King getting his first varsity touchdown on a 52-yard run. The Packers went fo a 2-point conversion pass, but it was knocked away and Colquitt’s lead was 22-14.

But Valdosta answered, driving 80 yards in just eight plays to score on a 19-yard, fourth-down pass from Rowe to Jay Rome. Rowe ran in the two-point conversion to knot the game at 22-22.

But the Packers were not done.

Colquitt drove from its own 15 to the Valdosta 11, where the Packers stalled.

Dismuke finished the first-half scoring with a 28-yard field goal to enable the Packers to take a 25-22 lead into the locker room at the half.

Colquitt rang up 371 yards of offense in the first half, including 212 on the ground and 159 in the air.

Valdosta regained the lead on its second third-quarter possession, driving 77 yards in 10 plays to score ona 6-yard run by Johnson.

The Wildcats added a 1-yard touchdown run by Smith with 2:23 left in the quarter to go up 36-25.
