MOULTRIE — The park that had not given up a home run in its first year-plus of existence, now has surrendered three in the last two games played there.

Cheyenne Reynolds hit the first home run at Packer Park — which opened last year — in last Thursday’s Colquitt County middle school’s victory over Coffee.

On Tuesday, Valdosta sent two over the fence, leading the Lady Wildcats to a 7-2 victory over the Lady Packers.

The Lady Wildcats won games over the Lady Packers on back-to-back days, also winning on Monday in Valdosta, 2-0.

The victory was the first in a Region 1-AAAAA game for Valdosta. The Lady Packers fall to 1-3 in region game and 8-9-1 overall.

Monday’s game between Colquitt County and Valdosta did not count in the region standings.

Northside of Warner Robins comes to Moultrie on Thursday for another Region 1-AAAAA game.

All seven of Valdosta’s runs came via home runs.

Colquitt trailed 4-0 in the first when Valdosta’s Kristin Gill and Amanda Smith reached on base hits.

Leslie Brandon grounded to shortstop Kaley Clark, whose throw to third to get a force out hit Gill and all three runners were safe.

Courtney Merritt then hit the first varsity home run and first grand slam at Packer Park, cranking the ball over the right center field fence.

Gill hit a two-out, three-run home run in the third to account for the other Valdosta runs.

Aysia Reed went the distance to get the win for Valdosta, which picked up its first region win.

Christy Harper pitched the first inning for Colquitt County, giving up four runs on three hits. She walked two, hit a batter and struck out two.

Hannah Hancock took over in the second inning and went the rest of the way, giving up three runs on four hits. She walked one and struck out five.

The Lady Packers had nine hits, including two in an inning three times.

But only a two-out Valdosta error in the sixth kept the Lady Packers from being shut out.

Brooke Hood, Bria Wallace and Jana Harvin each had two hits. Clark, Harper and Maggie Davidson had the others.
