MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County 14-and-under all-stars were eliminated from the Georgia Recreation and Parks state tournament on Friday, falling to Dublin 8-5 in a losers bracket game.
Dublin dealt Colquitt County its first loss in the tournament opener on Wednesday by the same score.
The Packers rallied in the losers bracket on Thursday, winning two games, defeating Calhoun 12-5 and Thomson 13-1 to keep alive the goal of defending last year’s state championship.
But Colquitt managed just seven hits on Friday and could not rein in Dublin.
Matt Creech and Vann Pitts each had two hits and Tyler Yost, Austin Dykes and Bryce Giddens each had one hit.
“Dublin had a real good pitcher,” Colquitt County coach Robby Pitts said. “He looked real strong. Dublin was well-coached and they just beat us.
“Our kids fought hard. They are a wonderful group. I’m proud of them.”
