MOULTRIE — If the Colquitt County 14-and-under all-stars are going to win the District III championship and try to defend their 2007 state championship, they will have to do it from the losers bracket.

After winning its first two games of the District III tournament on Saturday at the Magnolia Sports Complex, Colquitt County was pounded by Tift County 15-2 in four innings on Monday.

Tift County scored four runs in the first, four more in the second, then put the mercy rule in effect in the bottom of the fourth, scoring seven times.

Starting pitcher Alex Conway led Tift County with a pair of home runs.

Colquitt County managed just four hits: two by Bryce Giddens and one each by Corey Moore and Aubrey McCarty.

Colquitt County now must defeat Sylvester in a losers bracket game at 5:30 p.m. today for a rematch with Tift County in the 7:30 p.m. championship game. The if game is set for Wednesday. Sylvester blanked Grady County 8-0 on Monday to advance.
