MIdget sub-District opens Monday

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County 12-and-under A all-stars tuned up for this week’s Georgia Recreation and Parks Association’s sub-District III tournament by winning the Americus Kiwanis Baseball Classic last weekend.
Colquitt County was not challenged until the championship game and totaled 74 runs, 59 hits and 23 home runs, including four grand slams, in the tournament.
Colquitt County opened with a 27-0, three-inning victory over Miller County. The all-stars had 19 hits, including nine home runs, three of which came with the bases loaded.
In its second game, Colquitt County blanked Americus Ice A 13-0 in a game in which it had 12 hits and four home runs, including one grand slam, in four innings.
The Americus Spartans fell next, losing 26-0 to a Colquitt County team that pounded out 18 hits, including seven home runs, in just four innings.
Colquitt County defeated Americus Ice A 8-5 in the tournament championship game, getting 10 hits, including three home runs in six innings.
Colquitt County will see the Americus teams again when the sub-District tournament opens on Monday.
Colquitt County A will meet one of the Americus teams at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
The Colquitt County B team will play Thomasville at 7 p.m. Monday.
The six-team, double-elimination tournament will continue on Tuesday and Wednesday with the championship game scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
The tournament winner will advance to the three-game District III championship series, scheduled to begin Monday, June 23, also at the Magnolia Sports Complex.
The Colquitt County A team, which is coached by Joey Hathcock and Warren Bozeman, includes Jonah Bozeman, Drew Penuel, Preston Berry, Mack Hathcock, Colby Reneker, Austin Mercer, Daniel Mobley, Gabe Mobley, John Gray, Tony Simpson, Andy Bush and Clayton Brown.
The Colquitt County B team is coached by Bill Frazier. His roster includes Warren Funderburk, Ryan Chatman, Kyle Ashley, Hunter Kimble, Ryan Pipkin, Cole Bryant, Hart Sumner, Jim Waldrop, Tristan Frazier, Dalton Dillon, Nick Nichols, Wade Hawes and Austin Hunnicutt.
