McAlpin Signs, Wendy’s to play for tournament title

MOULTRIE — McAlpin Signs and Wendy’s each won two games in the Farm League baseball tournament on Tuesday and will play for the championship at 6 tonight at the Magnolia Complex.
Wendy’s defeated Southwest Georgia Bank 8-4 and Rocky’s 6-0 on Tuesday to advance to the championship game.
In its victory over Southwest Georgia Bank, Wendy’s got three hits each from Robert Clark and Jaquon Blakely and one of Blakely’s went over the fence for a home run.
Bobby Edwards and Matthew Jordan each had two hits.
Drew Davis, Wheeler Hunnicutt and Jake Hart each had two hits for Southwest Georgia Bank.
Blakely had three more hits in the victory over Rocky’s that sent Wendy’s to the tournament championship game.
Savonta Slaughter also had three hits and Chaz Smith added two for Wendy’s.
McAlpin Signs rolled up 33 runs in its two tournament victories on Tuesday.
In the 13-3 victory over Zaxby’s, Noah Moore had three hits and Geoffrey Zeigler, Austin Singletary, Cody Mullis and Aaron Johnson had two each.
Ben Weeks had two hits for Zaxby’s.
McAlpin qualified for the tournament championship game when it slugged Random Design 20-12.
Mullis and Johnson each had three hits and Zeigler added two for McAlpin Signs.
Austin McCord had three hits and Jacob Coots added two for Random Design
In a first-round game on Monday, McAlpin Signs eliminated regular-season champion Lazarus 11-6.
Austin Singletary and Cody Mullis each had three hits an Geoffrey Zeigler, Noah Moore and Billy Wayne Smith each had two for McAlpin Signs.
Chason Fannin had three hits and Houston Massey, Gabe Parker, Codi Noble, Taylor Willis, Zane Hogan and Cameron Vereen each had two for Lazarus.
Wendy’s advanced with a 17-2 victory over Ameris.
Robert Clark, Jaquon Blakely, Savonta Slaughter, Bobby Edwards and Chaz Smith each had two hits for Wendy’s.
Rocky’s edged Custom Cabinets 7-6 to remain alive in the tournament.
Tyler Pifer, Kodi Bishop and Gavin Phillips each had three hits and Anthony Bryant had two for Rocky’s.
Clayton Brooks and Reed Robinson and two hits for Custom Cabinets.
Random Design won its tournament opener 14-4 over Farm Bureau.
Devin Flinchum had three hits and Griffin Simmons, Tristan Wells, Demetrius Walker and Austin McCord each had two for Random Design.
In Monday’s Pony League action, Aubrey McCarty and Corey Moore hit home runs to lead VFW to a 9-6 victory over Southwest Georgia Bank.
Dillon Presley was the winning pitcher. Bryce Giddens had three hits and McCarty, Moore and Jimmy Skeen each had two for VFW, which finishes its season with an 11-4 record.
Cody Carr had two hits for Southwest Georgia Bank, which finishes 7-8.
Ameris closed out its Pony League season with an 8-7 victory over Clements Pools.
Andrew Carlton was the winning pitcher. Tyroni Walker had three hits, including a home run, and Alex Littleton also homered for Ameris, 9-6.
Jim Harrison, Zack Saunders, Roy Fuentes and Mitchell Hawes each had two hits for Clements Pools, 2-13.
Quality Employment concluded its perfect Pony League season with a 7-2 victory over Edwards Motors on Tuesday.
Austin Dykes was the winning pitcher and helped his own cause with two hits, including a home run.
Anthony Brumbly also homered and Zac Wheeler had two hits for Quality Employment, which finishes the season with a 15-0 record.
Daren Kent hit a home run and Cameron Matthews had two hits for Edwards Motors.
