MOULTRIE — For the second game in a row, the Colquitt County bats were ineffective and the pitching was unable to help out as the Packers fell 15-3 to Crisp County on Monday at Ike Aultman Field at Packer Park.

Colquitt managed just two hits in the game, which was called after five innings on the mercy rule.

In Friday’s 9-4 loss to Warner Robins, also at home, the Packers had just three hits.

The loss is the fifth in a row — and the 10th in the last 13 games — for the Packers, who fall to 8-13.

Colquitt will try to get back on track on Wednesday when Thomas County Central visits Packer Park.

The game against the Yellow Jackets will be the final non-region contest for the Packers, who return to region play on Friday when Coffee visits.

The Packers complete the regular season with games at Lowndes and at Tift County next week.

After the team’s seven seniors — Blake Cato, Ben Cauthen, Andrew McDowell, Nathan Cashwell, Austin McAlpin, Bo Williams and Patrick Taylor — were honored before the game — the Packers fell behind 4-0 in the top of the first.

The Cougars defeated the Packers 6-4 on March 11 in Cordele, but the game on Monday was never close.

Crisp County leads Region 1-AAA with a 6-0 record and left Moultrie Monday night with a 17-5 overall record.

The Cougars average more than nine runs a game and passed that milestone with a seven-run fifth inning. They finished with 13 hits.

Packer starter Austin McAlpin walked the first two Cougars of the game and both scored in the four-run first.

Crisp County ran its lead to 7-0 in the top of the second on a three-run homer by Drew Stewart.

The Packers scored their three runs in bottom of the second, getting just one hit — a double by McDowell — and taking advantage of three errors, a walk and a hit batsman.

The Packers other hit came on a single by Cauthen in the first.

Colquitt had several opportunities, but had two runners thrown out attempting to steal to end innings and had another picked off first.

Crisp County starter Keith Morris pitched all five innings and struck out four.
