MOULTRIE – Led by Andre Bramble’s two first-place finishes, the Colquitt County middle boys team finished second in Friday’s conference track meet held in Tifton.

The middle school Packers totaled 84 points to finish behind Tift County, which had 93.5. Valdosta was third with 58 points.

The Colquitt County middle school girls finished fifth.

“I was pleased with the effort the kids put forth,” said Coach Link Whittaker. “Several had their best performance in region.

“Although the boys finished second, it was the highest point total, by far, for any team I’ve been a part of and 9 1/2 points out of first is really very close. They should be proud of their accomplishment. I was most pleased that just about every member of the team posted points toward the final total.”

Bramble won the conference championship in the long jump with a jump of 18 feet, 9 inches. He also won the 800 meters with a 2:20, tying the Colquitt County middle school record set by Joe Peacock in 2002.

“Andre Bramble is new here this year,” Whittaker said. “He seemed a little timid at first in the competition. He really stepped up and showed his talent with the two event wins.”

Fred Phillips also took a region championship, winning the 100 meter with an 11.09.

Getting a runner-up finish at the meet was Bryce Giddens, who took the silver medal in the shot put with a heave of 39 feet, 3 inches, a school record. Preston Mobley also competed in the shot put and turned in a 36 feet, 7 inch performance.

Giddens also was third in the discus with a throw of 113 feet, 6 inches.

Edarius Davis was third in the high jump with a jump of 5 feet and Ian Ramos finished third in the mile with a time of 5:35.

The 4×200 relay team of Scott, Phillips, Quon Jones and Stacey Blackwell was fourth with a school-record 1:44.00. The team of Quon Nelson, Tae Avery, Santonio Terry and John Peterson was sixth with a 1:45.77.

“She was ‘Miss Dependable,’ a steady competitor and gave her best in any event I put her in these last two years,” Whittaker said of Reed.

Joining Reed on the relay team was Amber Westley, Meagan May and Shemeka Reynolds. The same four placed fourth in the 4×200 relay with a 1:58.0.
