MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County baseball, tennis, soccer, boys golf and gymnastics teams will be in action today.
Only the tennis teams will be home, as they face Houston County in their final Region 1-AAAAA matches of the season.
The Lady Packers could clinch the region championship with a victory over the Lady Bears, who are winless in the region.
The six senior members of the tennis teams will be recognized before the match.
Shaun Soderstrom, Zach Owen and Barclay Mitchell will play their final matches at the Jim Buck Goff Recreation Complex.
Soderstrom has been playing No. 1 singles; Owen has teamed with Chris Harvin at No. 1 doubles; and Mitchell has played No. 2 doubles.
The three senior members of the girls tennis team will be back at their home courts again after today when the Lady Packers play host to a first-round state tournament match.
The three senior girls tennis team members are Jessica Harvin, Savanna Lamon and Dresden Melton.
Although Harvin and Lamon have teamed up to play No. 1 doubles the last two seasons — and are undefeated in region matches this year — Harvin is expected to play with her underclassman sister Jana in today’s match.
The Lady Packers will take an overall record of 13-2 and a region record of 10-1 into today’s match. The Packers are 6-9 overall and 3-8 in the region.
The Colquitt County baseball team also will face Houston County today, but will have to ride to Warner Robins for the Region 1-AAAAA game.
The Packers will be out to get the second round of region games off to a winning start against the Bears.
After winning games this week over Americus-Sumter County and Dougherty, the Packers have raised their overall record to 8-8.
But the Packers are 2-4 in the region and need a strong second-half run to qualify for the Class AAAAA playoffs.
The Colquitt County soccer teams will go on the road to face Lowndes today, with the matches being played at Valwood School.
Martin Stadium, home of the Lowndes football and soccer teams, is undergoing renovation, requiring the games to be moved.
The Colquitt County girls, 6-8 overall and 3-6 in the region, will try to build on Tuesday’s 5-0 victory over Valdosta when they meet the Vikettes at 6 tonight.
The Lowndes girls also are 3-6 in region play.
The Colquitt County boys are 8-6 overall and 6-3 in region and are coming off an 11-0 victory over Valdosta on Tuesday.
The Lowndes boys are 4-5.
The Colquitt County High boys golf team will head to Columbus today for the two-day Hardaway Invitational.
And the Colquitt County gymnastics team will take part in its final pre-area competition when it goes to Thomasville for a meet beginning at 6:20 tonight.
Also in the field will be Cairo, Bainbridge, Tift County, Brantley County, Camden County, Thomas County Central and Lee County.
