Colquitt soccer teams sweep Valdosta

MOULTRIE — Colquitt County girls soccer coach Jimbo Jarvis has done some serious figuring on how his team can still qualify for the postseason.

And he believed, as the Lady Packers prepared to meet Valdosta on the road on Tuesday, that if his team beat the Lady Wildcats by two goals or more and then defeated Lowndes on Friday, that it was likely they would make the state playoffs.

The Lady Packers took care of the first part of that equation, blanking the Lady Wildcats 5-0.

“If we beat Lowndes, and everything else plays out like it should, we should be in,” Jarvis said.

The Lad Packers got goals from Carly Banks, Lindsey Causey, Suzi Hernandez and Lacey Webb in the first half. The second-half score was an own goal off a Valdosta player.

Tuesday’s victory avenged an earlier 3-2 loss to Valdosta at home and set up Friday’s meeting with the Vikettes.

Lowndes won the first meeting with the Lady Packers 2-1. But the Vikettes have twice lost to Valdosta, the team Colquitt shut out on Tuesday.

The Vikettes, 3-5 in the region, played at Tift County on Tuesday. The result of that match was not available at press time.

The Lady Packers’ Tuesday victory ended a four-game losing streak and raised the Lady Packers record to 6-8 overall and 3-6 in the region.

The Colquitt County boys defeated Valdsota 11-0 in Tuesday’s second game.

The victory sent the Packers record to 8-6 overall and 6-3 in the region.

Also, the Colquitt County-Warner Robins games that were rained out on Saturday have been rescheduled for Monday at Tift County. The boys will play first at 5:30 p.m. The girls match will follow.

Colquitt County will play a pair of non-region matches against Brookwood on Saturday at Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium. The girls will start at 10 a.m. The boys will play at noon.

The final regular-season games are scheduled for Tuesday against Tift County at home.

Also on Tuesday, Houston County was at Warner Robins.
