Demons face Packers coming off big victory

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County and Warner Robins baseball teams will carry identical 1-1 records into their Region 1-AAAAA game today in Warner Robins.
But while the Packers are coming off an 8-1 loss at Valdosta on Tuesday, the Demons will have the benefit of one of their most satisfying victories in a while.
Warner Robins defeated Houston County 5-1 on Tuesday, the first time the Demons have defeated the Bears in five years.
The victory raised the Demons overall record to 7-2. Their losses have come to Valdosta, 6-0, and Northside-Warner Robins 12-2.
Jesse Scott was outstanding on the mound for the Demons on Tuesday, going the distance, giving up five hits, one run and walking three while striking out nine.
Catcher Zack Watson led the Warner Robins offense going 2-for-4 with three runs batted in.
The Packers opened the region portion of their schedule with a 7-3 victory over Houston County last Friday, but managed just one run and six hits against Valdosta’s Kyle Rowe on Tuesday.
The Packers are likely to start junior left-hander John Michael Harrison, who was the winning pitcher in the victory over Houston County on Friday.
Harrison gave up one run, six hits and struck out seven Bears in the game.
Also tonight, Valdosta will try to win its third straight region game to open the season when it travel to play Houston County.
The Wildcats are 9-1 overall. The Bears are 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the region.
Tift County and Lowndes, both 0-1 in the region, will meet at the Devil Diamond at 7 tonight.
The Vikings are stinging from a 16-9 loss to Coffee at Noel George Field on Tuesday.
Tift County was off on Tuesday after dropping its region opener 8-1 to Coffee last Friday.
Coffee, which has opened the region part of its schedule with an 8-1 win over Tift County and the 16-9 pasting of Lowndes, will be off tonight. The Trojans are 7-2 overall.
