MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County boys soccer team is two games under .500 as it prepares for its regular-season finale today at Valdosta.

But with a victory over the Wildcats and a strong performance in the Region 1-AAAAA tournament that opens Saturday, the Packers still could finish with a winning record.

After defeating Lowndes 2-1 on Saturday, the JV Packers have won three of their last five and raised their record to 4-6.

They can make it to 5-6 with a second victory of the season over Valdosta. Colquitt opened its season on Feb. 12 with a 2-1 victory over the Wildcats at Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium.

When the Packers head to Packer Park on Saturday for the first round of the tournament, they will get a chance to avenge a 3-2 loss when they square off with Coffee at 11 a.m.

The Colquitt County girls, who have finished their regular season with a 3-6-2 record, also will meet Coffee at 11 a.m.

Five first-round tournament games will be played at Packer Park on Saturday with the survivors advancing to the second round at Tift County on Monday.

The region championship games will be played at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium on Thursday, March 27.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, the Lowndes boys and girls will meet Warner Robins and at 3 p.m., the Valdosta boys will face Tift County.

Admission on Saturday will be $5.

In the boys bracket, Houston County received the bye and will play the Lowndes-Warner Robins winner on Monday. The Coffee-Colquitt and Valdosta-Tift County winners will meet Monday.

The Tift County and Houston County girls drew byes and also will not play Saturday. The Colquitt-Coffee girls winner will face Houston on Monday.
