MOULTRIE — The first day of soccer matches at Parker Park was a windy one, but the Colquitt County boys and girls teams combined to win two of their four matches.
After the Lowndes and Houston County girls and boys played, Colquitt’s girls and boys faced Houston County.
The Colquitt and Houston County girls battled the wind and each other and settled for a 1-1 tie.
Lindsey Causey had the Lady Packers only goal.
Both goals came when the scoring team had the wind at its back.
In their second game, the JV Lady Packers jumped out to a 3-1 halftime lead and defeated Lowndes 7-1.
Causey scored three more times against the Vikettes. Marla Medina had two goals and Hannah Vereen and Rocio Ceniceros had the others.
The JV girls raised their record to 3-6-2.
The junior varsity boys dropped their first match of the day, falling to region-leading Houston County 2-1.
The Packers scored first on a penalty kick by Daniel Moreno, but the Bears matched that just two minutes later with a PK of their own. Houston got the eventual winning goal just before the half.
In the second game, the Packers avenged losses of 3-0 and 4-2 to Lowndes earlier this season with a 2-1 victory on Saturday.
Lowndes scored first, but Jose Zunun tied the match at 1-1. Then, with six minutes remaining, Giovanny Rico chipped one over the keeper’s head from outside the 18 for the game-winner.
Coach Ashley Hill praised with work of fullbacks Tanner White, Josue Marquez, David Contreras, Kyle Scott and Dyllon Royal and keepers Victor Guerra and Damien Bentley.
