Middle school soccer teams still unbeaten

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County middle school soccer teams continue unbeaten after a pair of shutouts at Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium on Monday while the JV soccer teams split a pair of matches at Tift County.

The Colquitt County middle school girls raised their record to 7-0-1 with an 11-0 victory over Worth County.

The youngest Lady Packers defeated Worth 6-0 in Sylvester on Feb. 25.

On Monday, the Colquitt County girls jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead, getting two goals each from Lauren Kelshaw and Madison Turner and another by Alex Norris.

Turner assisted on one of Kelshaw’s goals. Kelshaw assisted on one of Turner’s.

In the second half, Colquitt received two goals from Jordan Hammack and one each from Kelshaw, Camille Sellers, Mary Holt Statom and Macie Chitty.

“They’re finally starting to play together as a team,” said Coach P.J. Horne. “It doesn’t matter who we put out there, they all do well.”

The middle school boys duplicated their earlier 6-0 victory over Worth.

Scoring for the Packers Gold team were Ismael Moreno and Carlos Martinez.

For the Red team, Ruben Fabian scored two goals and Guillermo Torres and Daniel Gonzalez got the other.

“The Gold team started us off with a 2-0 lead and the Red team got to work on its passing skills in the second half,” said Coach Ben Marion.

The middle school teams travel to Hahira today.

In Tifton, the JV Packers got a goal from Gian Rodriquez at the 15-minute mark of the first half and then held on for the 1-0 victory.

The JV Packers are now 3-4 and have won two in a row.

The JV girls fell 2-0 to Tift County are now 1-6-1 on the season. Coach Andy Chapura said he was especially pleased with the play of Kayla McCollum.
