MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County boys soccer team got a header by Beau Holden off a corner kick by D.J. Vanzant with four minutes remaining to defeat Warner Robins 2-1 on Friday in Warner Robins.
The victory raises the Packers record to 3-3 overall and gets them to 2-0 in the Region 1-AAAAA standings.
“We’re still not scoring as much as we’d like,” said coach Rob Craft. “But this was a good statement to make. It was good to beat a team like that at their place. And it was nice to win it late and avoid overtime.”
The Packers took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by Bret Holden. Beau got the assist on that goal.
Warner Robins tied the match late in the first half.
And it appeared overtime was in the offing until Beau Holden, was able to get up in the air and punch in the game-winner.
The Demons fall to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the region.
The Colquitt County girls trailed 8-0 at the half and fell to the Demonettes 9-0.
The Lady Packers played without leading scorer Alba Hernandez, who was sick. Starter Laura Hill Bannister became sick during the game, leaving the Lady Packers with no substitutes.
Lady Packers coach Jimbo Jarvis moved Suzi Hernandez and Abbey Taylor to defense in the second half to help slow the Demonettes, who are now 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the region. The Lady Packers fall to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the region.
