MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County middle school soccer teams went to Cairo on Thursday and returned with a pair of victories, leaving both teams unbeaten with big matches at Tift County coming up on Saturday.

The Colquitt County middle school girls won 4-0 and in their three victories to open the season have outscored their opponents 15-2.

The youngest Lady Packers led 2-0 at the half on the strength of two Lauren Kelshaw goals.

Madison Turner and Jade Deloache got the assists.

Kelshaw and Alex Norris added second-half goals.

The three goals give Kelshaw nine on the season.

Colquitt County Coach P.J. Horne also used Kelshaw on defense on Thursday.

“Wherever she plays, she’s a leader,” Horne said.

Norris’ goal was her second of the season.

“We got to put all the girls in,” Horne said. “The new girls are starting to get some experience.”

The middle school boys won 5-1 to raise their record to 3-0.

“The other team was over-matched, but they were well-coached,” boys coach Ben Marion said. “We spread the ball around, did our drop passes. And we were aggressive for a change.”

Carlos Bautista had two goals and two assists for the Packers. Guillermo Torres also had two goals.

Esequiel Vazquez has had a goal and an assist and Alejandro Cardenas had an assist.

“Everybody got to play at least half the game,” Marion said.

The girls game will start at 10 a.m. Saturday in Tifton. The boys game will follow.
