Wallace swinging bat well for Truett-McConnell

Andrew Wallace has had some strong offensive performances in the early going for the Truett-McConnell College baseball team.
The former Packer went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and scored two runs in the Bears game against Gulf Coast Community College on Friday.
He also had three hits in the Bears 4-3 victory over Shelton State in Panama City, Fla., last weekend.
Truett-McConnell took a 6-7 record into its game against Piemont College on Tuesday.

n The University of Georgia’s Hannah Moore is diving in the Southeastern Conference championships this week.
She competed in the 1-meter springboard event on Wednesday, finishing sixth in the prelims and will dive 3-meter today and platform on Saturday.
n Aaron Eubanks will get the start on the mound for Georgia Southern on Saturday when the Eagles play host to Boston College at 2:30 p.m. in Statesboro. The game will be televised by Comcast Sports South.
Georgia Southern opens the three-game series with Boston College on Friday.
Eubanks, a senior, and Will Southwell, a junior, are former Packers playing for Georgia Southern.
n The Johnson C. Smith University women’s basketball team, coached by Vanessa Taylor, defeated Fayette State 74-53 this week to raise its overall record to 18-8, its CIAA record to 14-4 and its Western Division record to 6-2. The CIAA tournament begins Monday in Charlotte, N.C.
n Ashley Stafford had 11 points and a team-high 11 rebounds when the Columbus State women’s basketball team defeated Georgia College and State University 72-70 on Monday.
The Lady Cougars are 15-8 overall and are in a three-way tie for first place in the Peach Belt Conference. Columbus State will play at Armstrong Atlantic today. Stafford, a sophomore, is averaging 12.1 points and 6.4 rebounds a game.
n Ashley Jacobs is back for her sophomore season on the ABAC women’s tennis team. She fell at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-7, 3-6 to Stephanie Humphrey in the Lady Stallions season-opening 3-6 loss to USC-Aiken. She did not play in a 9-0 victory over Albany State.
The ABAC women will play at the University of West Florida at noon Saturday.
n Anne Yearta also is playing her sophomore season for the Young Harris women’s tennis team.
In the season-opening victory over Huntingdon College, Yearta defeated Katie West 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6 singles. She and freshman Sara Vaughters lost at No. 2 doubles 2-8.
In the Lady Mountain Lions 1-8 loss to Shorter, Yearta lost at No. 5 singles 6-7, 1-6 to Carolina Brignet. She and freshman Carrie Dixon also lost at No. 2 doubles 5-8.
n Bradley ended Drake’s 16-game home winning streak on Tuesday with a 72-71 victory.
John Michael Hall had two points for the Bulldogs, who are now 23-3 overall and 14-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
