MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County High varsity soccer teams will open their seasons tonight with the first of three home dates this week.
The Packers and Lady Packers will meet Thomasville at Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium tonight, with the girls starting 6 p.m. and boys squaring off at 8 p.m.
Colquitt will be back at the stadium on Friday to meet Ware County, with the girls starting at 5:30 p.m. and the boys beginning at 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, Thomas County Central will visit, with the girls set to start at 11 a.m. The boys will begin at 1 p.m.
The Lady Packers lost to the Lady Jackets 9-0 in the preseason scrimmage on Feb. 2 and would like to take a two-game winning streak into Saturday’s match.
That would have to start with a victory over Thomasville tonight.
Lady Packers coach Jimbo Jarvis would to get see improvement both offensively and defensively tonight.
Jarvis said he would send out margarita Moreno and Carly Banks up front. The midfield will include Abbey Taylor Lacey Webb and Suzi Hernandez.
The stoppers will be Lindsey Causey and Anna Hall. In the back will be Lindy Sanderson, Morgan Hayes at sweeper, and either Avery Castellow or Karlie Brown.
Freshman Jordan Boyd will be in the nets.
Expected to be in the game early is Alba Hernandez. The other two substitutes will be Hannah Vereen and Laura Hill Bannister.
“I expect Thomasville to be tough,” Jarvis said. “They always give us good competition.”
The Colquitt girls are coming off an 8-8-1 record in 2007.
Colquitt County boys head coach Rob Craft said he was not sure who would be in his starting lineup.
The Packers are coming off one of the most successful seasons in school history after posting a 15-4 record and advancing to the second round of the state playoffs.
“I’m not sure what to expect from Thomasville,” Craft said. “They’ll be solid. I expect to have a tough game.”
