MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County middle schools boys soccer team had some first-game jitters, according to Coach Ben Marion, but still managed to open the season with a 2-1 victory over Hahira on Monday at Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium.

The Lady Packers had no such jitters, looking smooth and sure while jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead and rolling to a 5-2 victory.

The Hahira boys grabbed a quick 1-0 just moments into the match, but never scored again against the middle school Packers defense and first-year goalkeeper Alex Littleton.

The Colquitt County boys scored both of their goals on headers by Roberto Ruiz and Ismael Moreno.

Allen Vargas assisted on both goals with outstanding feeds from the corner.

“They move the ball around real well,” Marion said of his team. “They’ve got a lot of experience.”

The rest of the Colquitt County middle school boys soccer teams includes Will Bannister, Danny Bastos, Carlos Bautista, Jonathan Brown, Alejandro Cardenas, Ruben Fabian, Dylan Globerman, Daniel Gonzalez, Adan Jimenez, David Juarez, Jorge Lagune, Carlos Martinez, Elias Moreno, Chris Sifuentes, Josh Smith, Guillermo Torres, Luis Vargas, Esequiel Vazquez, Brian Vidales, Hunter White and Matthew Moody.

In the girls game, Colquitt County’s Alex Norris scored with 19:07 left in the first half, just moments after she hit the crossbar with another shot.

Lauren Kelshaw got the assist.

Kelshaw made it 2-0 with a goal at 16:25 of the first half, with Jordan Hammack assisting.

Hahira scored at 16:05 to make it 2-1, but Kelshaw scored again 37 seconds later to put the Lady Packers up 3-1 at the half.

Jade Deloach got the assist.

Madison Turner scored twice in the second half, both off of Kelshaw assists, to put Colquitt up 5-1, before Hahira scored its final goal with 4:46 remaining.

“I thought they did an excellent job,” said first-year coach and former Lady Packer P.J. Horne. “You can tell they’ve played together.”

Also playing for the middle school girls this season are Brittany Parker, Robin Byington, Camille Sellers, Samantha Allen, Julie Anne Tyus, Hannah Fambro, Flora Cencieros, Chabeli Hernandez, Natalie Griffin, Cortney Carnes, Macie Chitty, Jaycee Lott, Laura Veasey, Ainsley Davis, Madison Sumner, Mary Holt Statom, Taylor Hoes and Becca Clark.

The middle school teams will return to the stadium at 4:30 p.m. next Monday to play Lowndes Middle School.
