MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County junior varsity girls soccer team opened its season with a 2-0 loss to Tift County on Monday at Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium.

“It was a tough, physical match, as they all are against Tift County,” said Colquitt County coach Andy Chapura. But I was proud of how the girls responded. We’ve got some work to do. But we never gave up.

“And we had some chances. We missed about eight shots and their goalkeeper had a heck of a game. She made some incredible stops.”

Chapura said he was especially pleased with the defensive play of Karlie Brown and the work of Lindsey Causey in the midfield.

And although she gave up two goals, Jordan Boyd had a strong game in the nets, Chapura said.

The Colquitt County junior varsity boys team will open its season at 5:30 p.m. Thursday when it plays host to Valdosta at the stadium.

Both junior varsity teams will travel to Warner Robins on Saturday to meet both Warner Robins and Houston County.
