FUNSTON — A former member of the Funston City Council for 30 years died Saturday.

Carl Milton Striplin, 87, died at his residence. He had served on the city council for 30 years before resigning in April 2006 because of bad health. His daughter said at the time of his resignation he suffered from Parkinson’s disease and had heart problems.

Councilman Bobby Ruis said Striplin and he worked together on the council for 17 years and never had a problem. Striplin worked to make improvements to Funston and gave all he could to the council to make those improvements happen, Ruis said.

“He was one of the finest men to work with,” Ruis said. “He was an outstanding citizen of Funston and a top-notch fellow.”

Striplin said when he retired that he enjoyed his time serving on the council and thought all his fellow councilmen were good fellows.

“It was a good time,” Striplin said. “We all worked together real good.”

Striplin said he was proudest of the new council building and fire station. He not only voted for them to come into being, as a brick mason he actually helped build them.

Gary Strickland was appointed to fill Striplin’s seat on the council following his resignation.
