MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County competitive cheerleading squad opened the 2007 season by taking first place on Saturday at Camden County.
After having never scored 200 points, Colquitt County now has done it twice in a row.
The Lady Packers scored 220 at last year’s state sectionals and had a 205 on Saturday.
Jenkins High was second with a 164.
Coach Patti Merritt called the 205 “absolutely amazing.”
“It’s been a while since CCHS has been to just a regular competition and placed first,” Merritt said.
“We looked great to have been the first competition of the season.”
Merritt said her team hit all of its stunts.
“Our standing tucks were awesome,” she said. “Callie (Land) did pull her double full.
“Laura (Murphy) was coming off a having a mild case of the flu so she didn’t chance her double full.”
Merritt said she was “tickled to death” for her team.
“I have never been more proud of our girls,” Merritt said. “The crowd went crazy for our hip-hop pyramid.”
Merritt said the Lady Packers will have to make some changes to their pyramid and front flip stunt to conform with new Georgia High School Association rules.
“We’ll work on those things this week and be ready for Ware County next Saturday, where we compete against Lowndes and Valdosta,” Merritt said.
