Russell Murphy
MOULTRIE — Russell Murphy, 76, of Seminole Drive in Moultrie, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at River Willows Nursing Center in Abbeville, Ga.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, at Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Hale Bishop officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memory Gardens. Casketbearers will be Dwight May, James May, David Ricks, Louie Ricks, Kenny Ricks, James Hay, Rick Clements and Bob Griffin.
Mr. Murphy was born Nov. 7, 1930, in Colquitt County to the late Frank Edward Murphy Sr. and Bernice Lillian Beasley. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of First United Methodist Church. He was retired from commercial printing.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Carlton Murphy; two sons, Mike Murphy and wife Suzanne and Eddie Murphy, all of Moultrie; a stepson, Jeff Burns of Colton, Calif.; three brothers, Max Murphy and wife Bonnie of Nashville, Neil Murphy and wife Sara of Bainbridge and Gerald Murphy and wife Debbie of Calhoun, Ga.; four sisters, Bootsie Ricks, Joyce Hopkins, Faye Murphy and Bonnie May and husband Dwight, all of Moultrie; and two grandchildren, Monique and Laura Murphy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frank E. Murphy Jr.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today, Aug. 19, at Harrell-Faircloth Funeral Home.

Joel Travis Smith
MOULTRIE — Joel Travis Smith, 86, of Coolidge, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Michael Helms and the Rev. Mike Keown officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery.
Born April 24, 1921, in Thomas County to the late Homer Thomas and Nora Hiers Smith, Mr. Smith was a retired dairy farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and was a past member of the Thomas County Farm Bureau, Thomas County Exchange Club and Thomas County Livestock Association. He served as a 4-H leader, was very involved with youth activities and was an avid fox hunter.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a stepson, Jerry Scott Carroll; two brothers, Homer Smith Jr. and Jack Smith; and one sister, Sybil Siegfried.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Morris Smith of Coolidge; a stepson, James Ray Carroll of Panama City, Fla., and a brother, Franklin Smith and wife Doris of Coolidge.
The family will receive friends at Cobb Funeral Chapel from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday.

Vera Greer Dickerson
MOULTRIE — Vera Greer Dickerson, 86, of Moultrie, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Donnie Sloan officiating, with interment following in Kimball Cemetery. Craig Dickerson, Harold Howard, Jimmy Howard, Stanford Whitman, Junior Craig and Charles Howard will serve as pallbearers.
Born Oct. 17, 1920, in Colquitt County, she was the daughter of the late Ira Allen and Hattie Huey Greer. Mrs. Dickerson retired from Bridgeport Brass, was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She was the widow of the late Elmer L. Dickerson and was preceded in death by three brothers, Bob Greer, Carl Greer and Bill Greer, and two sisters, Nettie Howard and Lottie Mims.
Survivors include two sons, Elmer Felton Dickerson and wife Betty of Iron City, Ga., and Darrell Fate Dickerson and wife Wilma Lee of Universal City, Texas; sisters, Irene Daniels of Valdosta, Ruth Willis of Funston, Hazel Howell and Gladys Howard, both of Doerun; a sister-in-law, Ima Holloway of Dalton; 10 grandchildren, Shannon Dickerson and wife Janet, Elisha Henry and husband Mike, April Simon and husband Robbie, Craig Dickerson and wife Cretes, Renee Proffitt and husband Darryl, Crystal North and husband Eddie, Travis Dickerson, Leon McCormick and wife Joanne, Amy McCormick, and Tierlyn Flores and husband John; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Monday at Cobb Funeral Chapel from 6 until 8 p.m. and may be contacted at 423 U.S. Highway 319 North.
