MOULTRIE — Lonnie White made a return visit to Flushing Meadows, N.Y., last week a successful one, bringing three first-place trophies back from the American Tennis Associa-tion’s national championships.

The national championships were the 17th, 18th and 19th for the former Moultrie High and Grambling State player, who also is a member of the Colquitt County Sports Hall of Fame.

White teamed with longtime doubles partner Milton “Amp” Myers to win the 45 doubles and 40 doubles championship.

He also won the men’s 45 singles championship.

White said he dedicated the tournament titles to the memory of Wallace Bly, his college coach, who died in early July.

White won the 45 singles and mixed doubles titles at the 2006 ATA National Championships held in San Diego, Calif.

White has won a men’s singles championship for five years in a row.

He won the singles championship last week by rallying past Daniel Todd of Hartford, Conn.

After losing the first set, 0-6, White rallied to win the next two sets 6-3 and 6-2.

Myers and White won the 45 doubles title with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Lester Small and john Lumken of Jacksonville, Fla. In the 40 doubles, the pair won over Mark Wiliams and William Byrd, 6-3, 6-2.
