Midgets power way to championship game

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County 12-and-under all-stars blasted their way through the sub-District III tournament and the best-of-3 District championship tournament, so it makes sense they would do the same at the state tournament.
And they have.
On Friday in Dublin, Colquitt County got home runs from Andrew Carlton and Preston Berry to lead a 9-0 victory over Glynn County that sends the all-stars to today’s championship 10 a.m. state championship game.
Colquitt County will meet either Glynn County or Douglas for the championship.
The Friday victory give the 12-and-under all-stars a 9-0 record in sub-District, District and state tournament play.
More impressive is the 31 home runs the team has hit in those nine games.
Aubrey McCarty leads the team with 10 homers in the nine games.
Berry, Carlton and Daren Kent each have four. Tyler Yost and Ross Goforth have three each. Jim Harrison has a pair and Matt Gerald has one.
McCarty also helped pitch Colquitt County to the state championship game with three shutout innings on Friday.
Blake Bennett pitched the final two innings on Friday.
Bennett also had two hits, with Yost, Goforth, Clayton Brown and Garrett Pearce chipping in one hit each.
