Mary Jane Cooper Merritt

BERLIN — Mary Jane Cooper Merritt, 90, of Berlin died Thursday, July 5, 2007, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 8, at Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Jim Osborne, the Rev. James Sellers and the Rev. Preston Norman officiating. Burial will follow in Sardis Cemetery with Marty Merritt, Chris Merritt, Richard Merritt, Jeremy Merritt, Scott Merritt, and Nathaniel Lewis serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Blaine Fowler, Marcus “Spud” Deas and Larry Kent.

Born Jan. 16, 1917, in Cook County, she was the daughter of the late John Jefferson Cooper and Laura Roberson Cooper. She was a homemaker and of the Freewill Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.C. Merritt; an infant son, Donald Merritt; a son-in-law, Ray Riggins; four brothers; and two sisters.

Survivors include sons, Ray Merritt and wife Geraldine of Berlin, Bobby Merritt and wife Judy of Moultrie, Hubert Merritt and wife Donna of Berlin, Jackie Merritt and wife Jeanie of Moultrie and Reggie Merritt and wife Sharon of Berlin; a daughter, Fae Riggins of Moultrie; 17 grandchildren, Marty Merritt, Beverly Merritt, Kirk Merritt, C.J. Merritt, Shelia Argent, Kyle Lewis, Chris Merritt, Keith Merritt, Patti Merritt, Richard Merritt, Ronnie Merritt, Rodney Merritt, Jeremy Merritt, Jessica Smith, Alex Merritt, Scott Merritt and Jennifer Merritt; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be today, July 7, from 7 to 9 p.m.

The family may be contacted at the home of Mary Merritt at 189 Langford St. in Berlin.

Elena Price Cole

MOULTRIE — Elena Price Cole, 92, of Moultrie, died Friday, July 6, 2007, at her daughter’s residence in Moultrie.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 8, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ron Shiver officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery.

Born Feb. 20, 1915, in Tallapoosa County, Ala., to the late Henry M. and Maggie Thomas Price. She was retired form J.C. Penney and Company was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was the widow of Bryant Cole and was preceded in death by a grandson, David Cope.

Survivors include a son, Dean Cole of Moultrie; a daughter, Lynn Cope and husband Jerome of Moultrie; sister, Addie Lee Wallace of Atlanta, Ga.; a grandchild, Bryant Cope and wife Sylvia; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon Cope and David Farr.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 until 2 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Donald Keith West

MOULTRIE — Donald Keith West, 79, of Moultrie, died Friday, July 6, 2007, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Ga.

Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 8, at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Born Oct. 19, 1927, in Lansing Mich., he was retired from the United States Navy and was a member of Pineview Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Courtney West of Moultrie; a son, Donald West and wife Teresa of Howell, Mich.; a daughter, Shelley Tarket and husband Daryl of Harrison, Mich.; a stepson, Tom Mothershed and wife Doris of Moultrie; brother, Bud West of Ft. Myers, Fla.; brothers-in-law, Wendell Courtney and wife Helen of Moultrie and Paul Coutney and wife Peggy of Tampa, Fla.; six grandchildren, Tom Mothershed Jr., Donnie Mothershed, Danny Mothershed, Joe Fitzpatrick, Mark Fitzpatrick and Stacey Sebastian; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the memorial service at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may be made to Pineview Baptist Church or the Moultrie Senior Center.

MOULTRIE — Willie Mae Johnson, 93, of Moultrie died Friday, July 6, 2007, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
