Crisp wins 10-and-under district

MOULTRIE — Crisp County Gold roared through the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association’s District III 10-and-under pitching machine tournament at Magnolia Sports Complex, taking the championship on Wednesday with a 13-4 victory over Thomasville Red.
Crisp County will go to the GRPA’s state tournament, which will begin on July 12 at the Magnolia Sports Complex, as the District champion, but will have plenty of District company.
Thomasville Red also will go to the tournament as the District runner-up.
And the Colquitt County A all-stars, who did not participate in the District tournament, will go to the tournament as the state tournament host.
GRPA officials agreed to take an extra team from two districts, including District III, because two other districts will not send a representative.
Colquitt County was represented in the District tournament by the Red Sox, who won one game before dropping two straight in the losers bracket to be eliminated.
Crisp County won its District opener on Saturday, defeating Thomasville Blue 8-5.
On Monday, Crisp send Grady County Gray to the losers bracket with a 22-2 victory. On Tuesday, Crisp advanced to the tournament championship game with a 3-0 victory over Thomasville Red.
Thomasville Red won the final losers bracket game in Wednesday’s first game, defeating Grady County Blue 14-4.
Crisp won the 13-team double-elimination tournament by knocking off Thomasville Red for the second time in the championship game.
Two other Colquitt County teams won District III championships this week.
The 12-and-under all-stars went through the sub-District tournament in Bainbridge without a loss then swept Bainbridge in the best-of-3 championship series.
The 12-and-unders will go to Dublin for the state tournament, which begins on July 11.
The Colquitt 14-and-under all-stars also swept the sub-District tournament in Moultrie and swept two games from Thomasville for the District title.
The 14-and-under state tournament will begin July 12 in Waycross.
