MOULTRIE — If the Colquitt County Red Sox are to advance to the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association’s 10-and-under state baseball tournament, they will have to do it through the losers bracket.
After winning their first game in the GRPA District III tournament, being held at the Magnolia Sports Complex, by a 12-4 margin over the Americus Warriors on Saturday, the Red Sox could not manage a run on Monday and fell to Thomasville Red 10-0 in five innings.
The Red Sox now will have to win three losers bracket games just to reach the championship game, then must win two more to take the District title.
The 10-and-under state championship tournament will be held July 11-14 at the Magnolia Sports Complex with the Colquitt County A team serving as tournament host.
The Red Sox are trying to be a second Colquitt County team in the tournament.
But they squandered too many opportunities on Monday. Colquitt County had at least one hit and two base runners in each inning, but never scored.
Thomasville broke open a scoreless game with seven runs in the top of the third and added three more in the top of the fifth.
Hunter Kimble and Kody Bishop each had two hits for the Red Sox on Monday. Will Roberts, Jim Waldrop, Joseph Gould and Kendrick Barton each had one.
Hunter Donaldson, Andrew Saunders, Austin Parmer and Davis Harker each had two hits for Thomasville. Donaldson drove in three runs and had a triple. Saunders and Parmer each had doubles.
Thomasville advances to the final winners bracket game against Crisp County at 6:40 tonight. Crisp County advanced with a 22-2 victory over Grady County Gray on Monday.
Colquitt County will meet Grady County Blue at 5:30 tonight in one losers bracket game. Grady County Gray will meet Bainbridge Blue at 5:30 tonight in the other losers bracket game.
