Divers win six region titles

MOULTRIE — Moss Farms Diving added three more titles on Sunday in the final day of Regional competition in South Carolina and Connecticut, giving the Diving Tigers six region championships.

In the two competitions, Moss Farms divers took six gold medals, four silver medals, four bronze medals and also tuned in one fourth-place, three fifth-place and one sixth-place finish.

At the Region 3 championships in Columbia, S.C., Kelsey Goodman added the 1-meter springboard title to the 16-18 girls 3-meter championship she had won on Saturday.

And in Region 1 championships in New Canaan, Conn., Anna Aguero won her second title, taking the 16-18 girls 1-meter championship. She had won on the 3-meter board on Saturday.

Also on Sunday in New Canaan, Ann Perry Blank won the 14-15 girls 1-meter championship.

Ryan Helms also won a Regional title, taking the gold medal in the 16-18 boys 3-meter championship on Saturday in Columbia.

Goodman, Aguero, Helms and Blank were among the 10 Moss Farms divers who qualified at the Regional meets to compete in the Summer East Junior Championships, which will be held July 12-15 in Rockville, Md.

The top eight finishers in each region event advance to the East Championships.

Also heading to Maryland will be Owen Blank, Ali Lepech, Jillian Braun, Hannah Moore, Henry Norman and Elizabeth Ann Kirkland.

Aguero and Lepech dominated the girls 16-18 competition in New Canaan, finishing 1-2 on both springboards.

On Saturday, Aguero won the 1-meter event with a 317.75, with Lepech right behind with a 311.75.

In Sunday’s 3-meter competition, Aguero scored a 350.00 to take her second gold medal of the meet. Lepech was second with a 337.30.

Goodman won her first region title of the weekend when she scored a 396.75 on Saturday in the 3-meter competition in Columbia.

On Sunday, Goodman turned in a 359.65 to win the 1-meter event.

Ann Perry Blank, who was fourth on the 3-meter board in the 14-15 girls competition in New Canaan on Saturday, took the gold medal on the 1-meter board on Sunday, scoring a 282.15.

Helms, diving in 16-18 boys, brought a gold and a silver medal back from Columbia. He won on the 1-meter board on Saturday, scoring a 503.25. On Sunday, he was second on the 3-meter board, turning in a 498.80. Nick McCrory took the 3-meter title with a 498.80.

Kirkland had an outstanding meet in Columbia, finishing second on the 3-meter board with a 250.09 on Saturday and third on the 1-meter board with a 229.35 on Sunday in the 13-and-under age group.

Braun earned a pair of bronze medals in 14-15 girls competition in Columbia, finishing third in the 3-meter board on Saturday with a 281.15. She was third again on the 1-meter board on Sunday with a 268.15.

Owen Blank won a bronze medal in 16-18 boys on Sunday in New Canaan, finishing third with a 402.70 on the 3-meter board. He was sixth on the 1-meter board on Saturday with a 370.15.

Moore, diving in the 16-18 girls events in Columbia, was fifth on Saturday in 3-meter with a 362.05. She also was fifth on 1-meter on Sunday, scoring a 333.05.

Henry Norman also qualified for Rockville by placing fifth on the 1-meter board on Saturday in Columbia, scoring a 221.80.
