MOULTRIE — The storm that rolled through southwest Georgia on Tuesday caused the postponement of the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association’s sub-District III baseball tournaments in Moultrie and Americus.

But the 12-and-under south sub-District was held in Bainbridge as scheduled and played through the raindrops. And the Bainbridge team probably wishes its tournament has been postponed as well.

The Colquitt County A all-stars got three home runs from Aubrey McCarty to bury Bainbridge 15-0 in three innings.

The victory was the second in a row for Colquitt County, which will advance to play either Thomasville or Grady County at 6 tonight.

A victory tonight would send Colquitt County into Thursday’s championship game against the losers bracket survivor.

Colquitt County A all-stars advanced on Monday with a 14-0 victory over Thomasville. In that game, McCarty went 2-for-2 with a pair of home runs and four runs batted in.

In the two tournament games, McCarty is 5-for-5 with five home runs and 10 runs batted in.

And McCarty has not been a one-man show.

On Monday, Preston Berry and Matt Gerald each had two hits and Daren Kent and Tyler Yost hit home runs.

Gerald was the winning pitcher.

On Tuesday, Kent had three hits including his second home run of the tournament.

Andrew Eunice, Ross Goforth, Garrett Pearce and Jim Harrison each had one hit. Harrison’s was a home run.

Blake Bennett was the winning pitcher.

The winner of the south sub-District tournament will play the north sub-District winner in a best-of-3 series for the District III championship.

The Colquitt County 12-and-under B all-stars opened play in Americus on Monday with a 14-2 victory over Crisp County Blue.

Wes Cox was the winning pitcher. Anderson Glenn pitched a 1-2-3 final inning.

The two were backed by a 14-hit attack, led by Andy Bush, who had three hits, including a pair of triples.

Cox, Cody Carr, John Gray and Zack Saunders each had two hits. Gray had a home run and Carr and Saunders contributed triples. Glenn, Stephen Bullard and Drew Penuel each had one hit.

With Tuesday’s games in Americus postponed by the storm, the Colquitt County B all-stars will meet Tift County at 5:30 p.m. today. Tift County had a first-round bye.

The 14-and-under sub-District tournament at Moultrie’s Magnolia Complex also was postponed on Tuesday.

The Tuesday games will be played today with the Colquitt County A all-stars meeting Crisp County at 5:30 p.m. and the Colquitt County B all-stars facing Lee County, also at 5:30 p.m.

The winners of those two games will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
