10-and-unders win tournament

MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County 10-and-under A all-stars took first place in the recent Americus Invitational tournament.
The team is coached by Don Price, John Robertson, Wayne Bryant and Tom Chatman.
In its first game, Colquitt County pounded out 16 hits in a 10-5 victory.
Colquitt County had 25 hits in a 17-9 victory in its second tournament game.
And 8-3 victory in its third game, in which it had 13 hits, sent Colquitt County to the championship game.
The championship game went to extra innings, with Colquitt County scoring four runs in the seventh inning to take a 10-6 victory. The all-stars had 19 hits in the game.
For the tournament, Colquitt County batted .561. Highlights included a home run by Kyle Ashley and an inside-the-park home run by Ryan Chatman.
Cole Bryant led Colquitt County in the tournament with 10 hits. Adam Merritt and Warren Funderburk each had nine and Shaun Bonner and Ryan Chatman each had eight.
Timmy Clay contributed seven hits and Tristin Frazier had six hits, including three doubles and a triple.
Parker Hoes had five hits, including three triples. Ryan Pipkin also had five hits.
Ryan Wallace, John Buck Eunice and Nick Nichols each had four hits. One of Wallace’s hits was a double and Nichols had several deep fly outs.
