MOULTRIE — A Moultrie man was apprehended in Cook County Thursday night after he allegedly fired two shots at another car. No one inside the car, including child, was hit by the shots.
Sedrick Obrian James, 22, of 610 11th Court S.E., was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, cruelty to children (first degree), carrying a concealed weapon, use of a firearm during the commission of a crime and use of a motor vehicle to commit a felony.
C.L. Smith and Latamia Jones reported they were at Northgate Apartments on Fourth Avenue Northeast about 6 p.m. Thursday when a red Dodge Intrepid pulled up beside their Pontiac Grand Am. The driver of the Intrepid allegedly fired at least two shots from a 9 mm handgun at the Grand Am and sped away.
Officers spoke with Smith, and he stated the alleged shooting took place about an hour after Smith told James not to hang out in front of his house on Fifth Street Northwest. As Smith and Jones left their residence, James allegedly caught up with them on Fourth Avenue Northeast and pulled his Intrepid beside their Grand Am when they pulled into Northgate Apartments. They said James allegedly fired the shots.
Officers looked at the Grand Am after it went to the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office and found no bullet holes in it. Officers relayed the Intrepid’s car tag number, an educator’s tag, to Colquitt County and Cook County authorities.
Cook County deputies stopped the Intrepid just inside the Cook County line at 8:04 p.m., and James was placed under arrest. A Moultrie police officer found a gun and ammunition inside the car and took James to the Colquitt County Jail.
